| ArtC's Full Review: Xerox DocuPrint P12 Laser Printer |
I purchased this product because of its price/performance and good reviews. I originally installed it in a Windows 98 environment and was quite pleased with the functionality of the interface: watermarks, 2-sided printing, booklet printing, multi-page output per sheet layouts...
Then I had to migrate to Windows 2000. At first the XEROX web support claimed the Widows 2000 driver for the P12 would be released late summer 2000. Finally they directed me to the Microsoft Windows Update page for their latest driver. What a disappointment! The Windows 2000 driver reduces the P12 to the functionality of a LaserJet III: 300 dpi, no page formatting and graphics that look like clippings from a 1950's newspaper. Apparently there is no intention to provide a real Windows 2000 driver for this printer. I expected more from this "imaging" company.
As a result I need to replace this printer after less than a year of use because of poor vendor support on a major platform. I don't know which printer I'll end up buying. I do know that it will not be a XEROX. I really do not believe that they're in this business for the long haul.
