I purchased the USB version of this drive in hopes of having a portable device for my new laptop. My main intention was to add to my cd library of frequently used data files (for web design) with DirectCD. Instead of finding a nice, durable companion to my Toshiba laptop I found this instead:
- a large drive about half the size of my notebook and twice as thick.
- cheap, plastic casing that easily crinkled to the touch
- power cords and adapters twice as thick as portable devices (more suited to desktop models)
- a setup guide that was extremely skimpy on detail and forced you to look things up on CD (all program installation is done via CD)
- warnings about not using the bundled DirectCD for file backup but instead to buy a Zip or Jaz drive instead
This drive seems more suited to porting from desktop to desktop, but it's not really made to fit in a laptop carry case. The casing in particular feels too flimsy to withstand packing and travel with other accessories.
