All the good reviews about the Iomega CD 650 weren't written by people who have lost huge amounts of data from their hard drives.
I recently received as a gift a CD 650 and figured I could tune up my computer by putting alot of my files on cd. It worked like a charm with Adeptec's Direct CD program included with the drive. Slight problem though. While trying to read the data later, the cd erased itself completely. I called Iomega's customer service line and what they told me was this,
"We don't recommend using the Direct CD program. It has a tendency to conflict with Windows and erase cd's if it has a problem."
"So what you're telling me is that I just lost half the files on my computer to software known to be faulty that you continue to ship with your drives?"
That was indeed the case. On behalf of Iomega, he was very sorry.
The hardware itself seems to be sound, but be forewarned, Don't use the Direct CD program if you have a heart condition because I just about went through the ceiling when I found out all my files are gone for good.
