I had been talking for a long time about buying a CD burner for my previous computer. When we decided that it was time to buy a new computer, the one that fell into our price range didn't have a CD Burner in it. I managed to wait all of a month before going online to www.outpost.com and ordering this one.
When it comes to hardware, opening up my computer and installing anything scares me to death, so I was not keen on doing this myself. The alternative was to send it out and who knows how long it would take until I got the computer back. The box arrived and I waited until the weekend so I would not feel pressured to get it done.
The good news is that it installed so easily it surprised me. It took all of a half hour to open up the tower, open up a slot, secure the drive, and hook up all the cables. The directions were amazingly easy to follow.
Now came the hard part - powering on the computer. Would it work... I held my breath... YES!!!
The Adaptec Create CD Software that comes with the unit is easy to use. The first screen lets you choose what type of CD you want to create: audio, data, or copy another CD. You can create CD-R or CD-RW CDs with this unit. What is the difference? CD-Rs will play in any CD player while CD-RWs need a special player if you use them for audio. I use the CD-RW function primarily for data.
The most impressive feature of this unit is it's speed. At 12x write speed, it makes a 80 minute audio CD in less than 5 minutes. When I break for dinner, I set a backup in motion, and by the time I finish eating, all my data has been backed up.
