| witchyangel's Full Review: SYQT SyQuest SparQ (SPARQ1AI-01) Drive |
I recieved a 1GB Syquest SparQ external removeable storage drive for my birthday in March of 98. I was thrilled to get it and have a way of storing files so that when I when I had to reformat my laptop I didn't have to redownload all the files I needed.
I started out using this drive on a Hitachi laptop that ran Windows 95 and never had any problems except for the occasional time the drive continues to spit out the cartridges at me. Then I bought another laptop which was Compaq Presario and it had windows 98(first edition) and it never gave me any problems running it. Now I have another laptop and its a HP Pavillion and I am running Windows 98(second edition) and no problems. Its easy to setup and install the software(3.5 disk) for this drive.
It came with one 1GB cartridge and after a year or so I filled it up and needed more cartridges. My parents found a 3 pack on sale at Best Buy for like $25.00. I figured I must of been lucky to find the cartridges since the company went out of business after being sued by Iomega for copyright infringements. Ironic enough now Sqyquest drives are being made again but Iomega bought them out and making them now.
I have been lucky and never needed help or to talk to a techincal department. But this thing is obselete now and no one seems to have these so I went out and bought a Iomega zip drive so that I could share files with the office computers and my parents computer and my sisters computer and other friend's computers since they all own a Iomega Zip Drive. I use the Iomega on my desktop computer at home now which is Emachine and the Syquest is on my laptop at work. Should be the other way around but I'm too lazy to unhook them and transfer them to the right computers.
I have been lucky with my syquest drive and it has continued to work longer and better than all the computers and other electronic gadgets I own. Now I am attempting to sell my syquest drive so I can get another Iomega drive so I can share files between my own computers easily.
I wouldn't recomnend buying one of these unless you never plan on sharing/swapping files with anyone else or buy two of these if you want to share data between your computers only.
Overall this is/has been a great product and I'm pleased it has lasted this long and still going. Seems to be well worth my parents money.
