| gerstein's Full Review: Yamaha CRW 6416SZ CD-RW Burner |
I bought a LaCie based version of this drive (SCSI for the Mac) about 6 months ago, and have been happy ever since. I've made copies of CD's for backup purposes, archived important data to CD, and even made a couple of audio CD's for my listening pleasure. I use CDRW's in it all the time to move large amounts of data between computers, and to share data files with friends - we just swap CD's and then use them almost like floppy disks!
Burning at all speeds is easy, and usually pretty fast (unless it's 650mb at 1x ;). I've only made 1 or 2 coasters, but they were basically me not setting the burn up properly.
The Mac version comes with the "Toast" software, from Adaptec, and I have yet to have a problem with it. It's very intuitive, very simple, and very easy - drag the disc/data you want to copy/archive into the Toast window, then click the "write CD" button and you're set.
