After reading the review by Superdoo on this series scanner, I thought I would like to add a few things to his well written review.
I got the 320P model (uses the parallel port, aka printer port). Acer also sells a 320U model that is identical to the 320P except that it uses a USB port. Whether your parallel port is already full or not doesn't really matter. There is a parallel port output on the 320P that can be routed to your printer (or zip drive or other parallel device). I have not tried running a printer through this port so I don't know if there are any problems, but I have no reason to suspect any.
I believe the 320U is a little more expensive. The USB interface should be slightly faster, but unless you will be scanning at very high resolutions (and therefore dealing with huge file sizes) you probably won't notice much difference.
I purchased this product to archive family photos and to scan items for display on my websites and on eBay. For those purposes, the 320P has been a good performer and entirely sufficient. Certainly, you could buy a better, faster scanner. But would the cost be justified? Unless you are an artist or a world-class photographer, I doubt it would be worth the extra clams.
I found the resolution that this scanner can produce to be more than enough for my needs. Scanning takes some practice. You will need to carefully balance file size and resolution. It is always a trade off.
Scanning also takes TIME. End of lecture.
The software that comes with the 320P is a little lacking. In a pinch, you could make do with the Ulead Photo Express program for making picture scans. But since I already had Photoshop, I just use it. The 320P works seamlessly with it.
All in all, a fine product that serves the market segment it was designed for (the casual home user) very well.
