| Green_Ribosome's Full Review: AcerScan 640BU Flatbed Scanner |
If you would like a simple staight-forward scanner then this Acer640BU is fine, especially for the price which is under $100.
However do realize that there is a "Hardware Problem" with many of these scanners. The problem is that about 1/2 the time during the startup of your computer the scannar will make a loud buzzing noise for about 20 seconds. This problem may go away completely or come back. The problem is that the locking safety switch located on the bottom of the scanner does not effectively unlock sometimes. But scanning still functions for me so far.
This is not a permanent problem with most scannars, however you should be aware of this problem. www.acerpheriperals.com site can help for those who need to solve this problem today.
