| 23458's Full Review: AcerScan 640P Flatbed Scanner |
My wife set up a website to put photo albums in it so friends around the world can see our pictures. We bought this Acer 640P at Bestbuy. The price is very attractive: $49 after $20 rebate. Its high resolution 19200x19200 dpi was also one of the reason I chose it among others.
At first, we scanned a few pictures using the maximum resolution, and we couldn't wait until it finished scanning since it took too long at this resolution, and the file size is huge. As a matter of fact, later we realize if you plan to post pictures on the web, 300-400dpi is already more than enough. Any resolution higher than that will create a huge file which takes forever to download.
This scanner has a very useful and nice function: pre-scan. It's very very fast to pre-scan a photo. You can select the finally scan window to save you time instead of scanning the whole photo. The driver and software bundled with the scanner are pretty easy to use and powerful. Also, this scanner has a printer port in/out connectors, so I cascade my Zip drive and my Epson printer with it.
At the price of $49, this is a real bargain.
