| Seventhson666's Full Review: AcerScan Prisa 640U Flatbed Scanner |
I have just used this wonderful scanner. I was so surprised at the increased features that the folks at Acer have added. The ability to scan in 48 bit color is superb. I know that most users will not take advantage of this feature but if you are involved in Photo Editing and manipulation then rush out and get this great inexpensive tool.
There is also a new bit of software that is included in the package. I am impressed at how well the ABBYY Fine Reader Sprint OCR program works. It also includes a demo for the full version and it is packed with features. Scanning text has always been a concern for people whom I have spoken with. They want a scanner that can scan a document into the computer and then fax it using their fax modem to a fax machine so that it looks like the original. Well, let me tell you, I had some fun playing with this scanner. I scanned forms, letters, newspaper articles and even faxes on thermal paper. They all turned out very well. If you have tried scanning newspaper, you know how hard it is. Most scanners give you an image that is very dark and hard to read. The ABBYY Fine Reader program has a setting for newspaper and does a fine job of scanning it.
Now, for all you who want a scanner so that they can scan pictures and send them through ICQ, AOL IM, Yahoo IM or e-mail, this is all you have to do.
1 place the picture in the scanner,
2 start Ulead Photo Express
3 click on get picture, then click on scanner
4 the album will appear. on the right there are some options. one option is file type. Pick JPG or JPEG. they are the smallest file types
4 preview the picture then select the are you want to scan
5 choose the dpi. 300 is very good.
6 then select scan
7 when the scan is finished, close the mirascan panel that opened and you will see your image. double click on it and you will be able to edit it.
8 to resize the image if it is too big to fit on your screen click on image
9 then click on resize.
10 you can choose to make the picture smaller without losing clarity.
11 when you are done, click file, then save as. give it a name and make sure that the file type is still jpg. Then simply attach file to e-mail to send away.
I hope these instructions are not too confusing. Just practice scanning and if you get carried away and you start running out of room, you can delete them, print them out, save them online or copy them to a CD.
Have fun.
