| mikedog's Full Review: Visioneer OneTouch 7600 Flatbed Scanner |
I couldn't pass this deal up at Office Max - $49 with a $30 rebate for a net cost of $19! How could I go wrong?
We are so pleased with this Visioneer 7600 One Touch scanner! It is easy to use, makes great scans, and comes with excellent software.
One Touch Buttons
There are 4 buttons on the scanner, which I first thought were gimmicky, but in fact are great features. The buttons are fully programmable and customizable.
Scan
Put your item in, press this button, and it scans at your preselected resolution (default is color 100 dpi) and brings it into the software of your choice (default is the supplied PaperPort software) automatically.
Copy/Print
Scans the document and prints it automatically. Works exactly like a copier.
Fax
Scans the document and brings it into your fax program, ready to fax.
Custom
User-programmable button. Default is OCR (Optical Character Recognition).
PaperPort software
This scanner is worth the price just for the PaperPort software that comes with it. It has many features, including page straighten, add text, highlighting, add lines, auto-fix, picture wizard, red eye reduction, crop, remove stray dots, etc.
It keeps your scanned documents in a well-organized folder system, and will export into jpeg, gif, or many other formats.
You can drag and drop your scanned item into dozens of program icons that are along the bottom of the screen.
OCR
To me the best feature of all is its excellent OCR software. It works GREAT. It takes a printed page and converts it into a word processing document, ready for editing, as if you had typed it in yourself. It handles columns, too.
I have the custom button set up to scan a page, and place it into Microsoft Word. It is a wonderful feature.
Quality
We are very pleased with the quality of our scans with this scanner. The colors are fine.
Specs
Resolution: 600 x 1200 dpi. Realistically, the 300 dpi setting is the most I ever use.
Bit depth: 36 bit, but the default is 24 bit, which is the most my software (Paint Shop Pro) handles.
Max. paper size: 8.5 x 11.69 inches.
