My $2000 Stereo system is collecting dust thanks to the Altec Lansing ADA 305's. These babies rock. I play a lot of games, and I was going to opt for some 4 or 5 point surround speakers, but like many people, I didn't want the hassle of trying to locate some speakers behind me. So I did my homework and found these babies. For a three point setup, I am very impressed with the surround. I am even more impressed with the crystal clear sound, and booming power they produce. I think I paid $170 at Buy.com, and it has been the most enjoyable upgrade I have gotten in a long time.
The USB connection is sweet because you don't have to fiddle with trying to balance the volume between the computer and the volume on the speakers. It balances the volume automatically. Turn the volume up on the speaker, and it goes up on the computer, and visa-versa.
The only downfall that I can think of is that they are not true digital, and that was misleading to me. I spent many hours trying to figure out why they weren't working correctly plugged into the digital port of my SB live card, and after calling tech support, I found out that they are not true digital. I was under the assumption that the USB made them digital, but it has nothing to do with the sound output. The USB only controls the assymetry between the speaker controls and the computer controls.
I definitely recommend this set to anyone who really likes their games. I play Thief, and it's scary how you can hear the guys come up behind you! This speaker set and the SB live is a great combo!
