The ADA-305 is quite a set for the price. I picked mine up from a place called Upgrade Souce (www.upgradesource.com). They cost $146 plus shipping; I believe that comes out a little lower than the hyped Buy.com's price. They're quite powerful, too. Even though there are only two speakers, each fairly small and only about 8" tall, they produce better, louder, more powerful sound than many people's stereo systems. The subwoofer is particularly impressive (of course, I do listen to a lot of Sublime), but many people are quite impressed that such an unassuming set can make such a big sound
The ADA-305's have two settings: stereo and Dolby ProLogic. Which you prefer is a matter of taste. The stereo mode tends to be a little more bass-heavy and more concentrated in mid-range frequencies. ProLogic mode has a little weaker (or maybe just less pronounced) bass and more clarity, but at times sounds slightly tinny and has occasionally made high-pitched vocals sound more mechanical than human. Each setting sounds quite good, for the most part, however.
One word of caution: these aren't the loudest speakers there are, so don't try to make them such. I blew mine out with the volume around 80% (although Altec-Lansing replaced them free-of-charge, save return shipping), so try and keep them at just loud enough to fill a room with sound, and not an entire hall. The only other con is a lack of a headphone jack on the speakers, which would have been nice, and definitely expected in this price range.
I recommend these to anyone looking for a relatively inexpensive PC speaker upgrade, and to those looking for a solid 3-piece set to boom out their MP3 collection.
