| sanctus's Full Review: Labtec LCS 1016 |
I'm a musician, so I ought to be ashamed of myself. But I honestly didn't think it mattered that much what kind of computer speakers I had. I figured, it plays the little noises the computer makes, good enough. Then my el-cheapo throwaway speakers that came with my system met an untimely demise at the hands of one of my children, and that all changed.
I'll be honest, I chose the Labtec LCS-1016's because they were on sale. I figured, "I fork over $20, and I'm back in business." That's really all the thought I put into it.
Was I ever surprised when I hooked up my 1016's! The sound is clean and clear. The wav files I've made over the years of my children no longer sound like recordings. They sound like my baby is sitting here talking to me. Excellent. These speakers are 4 watts, with magnetically shielded drivers. I don't know what that means, either, but it sounds great, doesn't it? What I do know is that it has variable bass/volume control, which means it doesn't sound like mud any time the pitch is low. It also means if you're using it to play back your mp3 files, they sound more like music and less like a walkman from a distance.
On an "I'm not a techie" note, it takes just one little plug into the hard drive to get these speakers set up.
Seriously, these aren't the top of the line, you could get a whole lot more knobs to play with on your speakers. But they are excellent quality at a really good price.
