Well over a year ago it became evident I had to purchase a new set of speakers. After looking and listening to a large number of speakers I chose the Labtec 1016 Speakers based on both their quality and price.
While I admit I am not a stereo/sound or music freak, I still enjoy listening to a wide range of music. Over the past year we have amassed a rather large MP3 collection of pop, classic rock, oldies and some blues songs. I knew that my final choice had to be of a quality to allow us to enjoy the many songs we were taking the time to download, yet not foolishly throw money out the door for no reason.
Sound
The Labtec 1016 Speakers were one of the first that I came upon and I was impressed with the clean and clear quality of sound. I also listened to a number of others, usually in the price range of $30.00 to $90.00, and just could not distinguish any appreciable difference. I really did not consider anything over this price range since we also own a CD burner and any serious listening is done elsewhere in the home. I did notice a "tinny" quality to many of the other speakers I listened to, and this poor sound was not limited to less expensive speakers. I noticed this poor sound quality in a number of speakers even in the $40.00 to $50.00 range, yet the Labtec 1016's were less expensive.
Since purchasing these speakers and using them at home I found them to offer a rather wide range of sound. Winamp's equalizer function has been the easiest way to perform this function, bringing out various tones as wanted.
Price
The Labtec 1016 Speakers were purchased for under $30.00 at the time and as I have not purchased them in some time I will take the Epinions page at their word that they can be bought for $26.00 today. This price is really a bargain for what you will receive. These speakers have been used every day for well over a year and have not given us a bit of trouble.
Size and Appearance
I also was impressed with bothe the size and appearance of the Labtec 1016 Speakers. They are made with a very soft colored plastic body which will blend in with most computers and decor. They also have a very stylish look and are small, giving you more choices in choosing a location.
Final Thoughts
If you do your most serious listening at your computer, you may want to look beyond these speakers, however, I would highly recommend these speakers to anyone else based on both their price and quality. The Labtec 1016 Speakers are more than sufficient for casual listening and day to day computing. Paying anything more may be throwing away your hard earned cash.
