| kathi's Full Review: Yamaha YST-MS50 Speaker System |
Our trio of PCs each sport their own subwoofer speaker set - my machine has the Platinum SWX 1600 system hooked up (see review under Platinum), the server has a nice yet relatively inexpensive system by Boca (I'm told these speakers are sold under a variety of names), and the games system has the Yamaha YS-MS50 system. Which set gets the most use? By far, the Yamaha system. Here's why:
The Yamaha system features a 40 Watt subwoofer plus two 20 Watt speakers that offer clear highs and midrange as well as a thumpin' good bass. Even at high volume the sound is crisp and clear. We like this system so much that we consider it our main stereo system, for use with our audio CDs.
The one drawback is that this system is not small. Its subwoofer is almost twice the size of my Platinum subwoofer and the speakers are also a bit bigger, and does take up a lot of room on the top of the computer desk hutch, so if you're limited on space, this system isn't for you. However, if you've got the room and you are in the market for a new subwoofer speaker system, you should definitely give this system a listen.
