| st3on1ey1baby's Full Review: Yamaha YST-MS50 Speaker System |
I have had this subwoofer speaker system for almost 6 months now and am thoroughly enjoying the supreme bass experience it is providing me with. I primarily listen to mp3’s when I’m on my computer, but busting out the old HP Media Rack on the Start Menu isn’t unheard of for me. Both players sound great on this little Yamaha system.
Pros
1. Surprisingly easy to set up - It only took me approximately 6 minutes to get the speakers and subwoofer out of the box and connected to my computer. It think it was more trouble getting the box and styrofoam packing out of my apartment than it was to set these babies up.
2. Way cheap - At only $130, you just can’t beat the quality you get for the price. Yamaha is a well-known name in electronics and they don’t disappoint when it comes to computer speakers. Actually, I only paid $100 for this system because there was a rebate of $30 back in January when I bought it. Imagine if you were to buy a home stereo or boom box – you would spend at least $300 for good sound. For $200 less than that, you get all the sound, plus the option of hearing your mp3’s or video games in high stereo quality with all the bass you need.
3. Sick Bass - Weighing in with a combined 80 watts (between speakers and subwoofer) of bass, this little system packs a punch that you can feel. I regularly turn the bass to as deep/low as it will go and pop in a little bit of Crystal Method to make the walls of my apartment shake. I’m sure my downstairs neighbor hates me with a passion.
4. Quality is higher than Marion Berry - I like my music WAY loud. I have blasted this thing loud enough to blow out a couple of ear drums. You haven’t heard loud until you’ve heard “Copa Cabana” on the Yamaha YST-MS50. But do the speakers ever crackle with all that bass and power shooting through them?? Nope. Nothing but pure and beautiful sounds come out of my speakers (unless, of course, I’m listening to Barry Manilow, in which case – there is NOTHING pure and beautiful about THAT). They haven’t blown out or started to falter in sound quality with the beatings I regularly give them. And playing Barry Manilow IS a beating.
Cons
I honestly cannot think of any cons to owning this system. I have had them for quite some time now and am perfectly happy with my purchase. The good people at Yamaha came through with my $30 rebate approximately 1 ½ months after purchase and I’ve been rocking ever since. This has got to be one of the best purchases I have ever made for my computer. If you are someone who enjoys great sounds (either for your music listening pleasure or video game playing pleasure), this system is perfect for you. It’s cheaper than any home stereo you can buy and it sounds even better than some of the stereos I’ve heard.
A wise purchase.
