You’ve got to read this review, because I am going to go into great detail about how much I LOVE these Yamaha Speakers with their sleek black look and the amazing Active Servo Technology they use.
On my desk right now as I listen to a Def Leppard CD, I am hearing this amazing, crisp, clear sound. I’ll tell you all about them.
Over a YEAR ago I was shopping for some nice speakers to go along with my nice new SoundBlaster AWE64 ISA Sound Card that I had purchased. Well, that poor-quality sound card has long been gone, but these speakers are still looking shiny and new, like top-quality items I just picked up off the store shelf.
I was very surprised last week when I was in a Staples and I saw these speakers, the same exact model that I purchased last December (1998), still for sale on the retail market. That proves all by itself that this active servo technology was way ahead of its time.
The quality, WOW, the quality on these is amazing to say the least. I listen to music almost NON-STOP (see my reviews about mp3s), and my CD Collection is well over 200, so you understand, I like music. If a person like me likes a pair of speakers this much, that really goes to show you something.
I’ve been to friends’ houses with computers, and their sound quality is rather poor, sometimes horrific to say the least. They have those $20 speakers from CompUSA or something like that. WELL. For only $20 more you can get 10x the quality.
Now I’ll list the features:
1. Front headphone jack on the right speaker so you don’t have to reach around to the back of the computer to use headphones. The convenience of this is great, I use it when I use the Internet phone programs like netmeeting. Also, the volume control controls the headphone jack too, which is much better than using the back of the computer.
2. Dual-Rear stereo input jacks. That’s right TWO Jacks, not one. I’ve used this occasionally to hook up my discman while I’m using my CD-ROM drive for something else. It would be perfect if you had two computers hooked up on the same desk,
3. Replaceable cables. I replaced both the cables that came with it with heavy-duty and longer shielded cables from radio shack (they probably cost me about $10.00), but I recommend upgrading these cables for anything you buy.
4. There is also an output for a powered subwoofer. A nice feature, if you’re really into the big bass-pounding games. Personally, I don’t have to worry about this as I have two 120-watt speakers on the receiver that my sound card’s rear-speaker jack is hooked up to.
Before I finish, I want to talk about the price. In December 1999 these were retailing for $79.00. I’m glad to see the price has dropped. While I only paid $35 for them wholesale back then, they were worth $79, and are certainly worth $40 today.
Conclusion: WOW, Great Features, Great Price. What more could you want? “Trust Me” :)
