| ak2525's Full Review: Yamaha YST-MS30 2 Speakers |
I just upgraded from the bottom of the line 14 watt speakers that came with my system and boy am I happy.
To start, the thing I like most - Bass!
This subwoofer with the Advanced Servo Technology emits booming bass at up to 45 hz. Even when the the bass level is adjusted 1/2 way to 3/4 way full as recommended, the subwoofer is blasting.
Next up, The YST Technology. The Speakers feature the Yamaha Advanced YST Technology for better sound. In regular speakers, the acoustic waves leak through the cone where the sound is emitted. The Air pressure then decreases, therefore producing a weak bass. In the YST Speakers, the cone is built more rigidly, therefore preventing the sound to leak. The air pressure is raised, and a higher bass is produced.
The two satellite speakers are a bit small, but have many pros. First, the speaker angle can be adjusted easily, and when its at a 30 degree angle from the table, the sound is much clearer. The 2 satellites look very sleek and produce high trebles. The speakers are magnetically shielded in order to prevent monitor distortion. The right satellite speaker has the volume control for easy adjustment.
The Connection of the speakers to the computer is as easy as pie. The simple diagrams in the manual allow you to hook the speakers in less that 10 minutes. Even though the satellite speakers are a bit small, the subwoofer makes up for that with its ideal size. The 7.2" x 7.7" x 7.2" subwoofer can fit easily anywhere on the desk while producing great bass. Yamaha has been known for its equipment for many years. Its gotten 9 awards for its speakers over the past 2 years. So why not trust them.
Yamaha also has a mail-in-rebate special going on until January 31, 2000 so hurry. They will give you $20 by mail in rebate. You can probably find them for between $40 and $60 and get $20 back.
The speakers work absolutely perfectly for games. After playing games such as Rainbow Six and Unreal Tournament, the experience was much better than with the cheap speakers. The speakers never lag if there's too much sound occurring at once.
The only problem I have found so far with these speakers is that if you put the volume really low, it only comes from the right speaker. But besides that its perfect.
