| OhNubilousOne's Full Review: Yamaha YST-MS30 2 Speakers |
Let's face it - with all the great multimedia available on the Internet and the phenomenal sound produced by today's digital audio players, the last thing you need is a pair of computer speakers whose output sounds like your garbage disposal. There comes a time in your life when you decide to buy a new set of multimedia speakers, but that time always happens to fall whenever you don't have any money to spend.
But fear not, all you poor gadget-lovers of the world, there is a way to get great sound without spending a lot of money. And no, it doesn't involve stealing anything - Yamaha has heard your desperate plea and has answered your prayers not in the form of manna, but with the YST-MS30 sound system.
With a sweet price tag of $79.99 (or less, depending on where you buy), the YST-MS30 provides the deep bass and smooth sounds that will make any Altech-Lansing owner green with envy. And you, my friend, will rest assured that you have purchased a superior-sounding system for less than a hundred bucks.
The YST-MS30 utilizes Yamaha's Advanced Servo Technology (AST) to provide the greatest possible sound quality from the smallest possible package. The AST system allows the 18-watt subwoofer to churn out bass to 45Hz. The AST system actually works - it minimizes distortion to the point that it is virtually eliminated. The result - you can crank up the speakers full blast and the output will sound as clear as it does at lower levels...but a lot louder, of course.
The entire 3-piece system doesn't require a whole lot of power, either. the two satellite speakers each take up 6 watts and the subwoofer takes 18 watts, for a grand total of 30 watts - not bad for a desktop system. And since the speakers were created as a multimedia system, you can hook it up to an mp3, minidisc, CD player, or game system for great audio. They're computer friendly and magnetically shielded as well, and sound great with computer games.
I'll admit though - while the YST-MS30 is a great compact system, it won't be able to handle fancy audio extras such as surround sound or environmental effects from the newer computer games. But then again, if you want to have all those fancy-shmancy effects, you're not the type of person who would invest in a sub-$100 sound system. Yikes...go buy yourself a $3000 Sony plasma TV while you're at it.
The rest of us, anyway, will have to settle for the MS-30.
