cypress_d_dt3000's Full Review: A D S Pyro A/V Link (API-550) Video Capture
I have limited experience doing captures from my DV camcorder to my PC and needed a means of capturing video from my old compact VHS camcorder. After 3 minutes with the manual and another 5 hooking up the AVI-550, I had everything setup to start working. This unit is very easy to use and requires no drivers on Windows XP. Just plug it in and it works (note: it comes with drivers for using with other versions of Windows or Mac). The quality of the VHS was simply outstanding just using RCA (no S-Video). The captures I got breathed new life into the old videos. I highly recommend this product to anyone wanting to digitize and create DVD's from a variety of sources. It is very easy to use and the ports are in a convenient location. It even has a 1394 (firewire) passthrough in case you only have a single firewire port. This way, you can hook up both digital and analog source equipment and just use the button on the front to switch back and forth. Also, you can hook up other firewire devices to the port and it acts just like to are plugged into your computer. If you think you don't need this because you have video-in on your video card, think again. I have used a video card with input as well as a hardware video codec for capture. This product far exceeds both of those. In my opinion, this is a great piece, especially for the cost.
