I have been using Ulead PhotoImpact 5.0 for a while on our company Intranet and Internet websites. About 8 months ago we, the ‘Internet junkies’, had to sample and suggest an image editing software for our companies web editing. We tested and sampled about 5 different products including: PhotoImpact 5.0, Paint Shop Pro, PhotoDraw, and others. It was so hard to test the other pieces of software after using PhotoImpact 5.0. This image editor completely blew the rest away in ease of use, web integration, and optimization of graphics.
I have also been blessed with enough free time on my job to be able to be here with the great people in epinions and to also be able to use PhotoImpact for personal Internet websites. :-)
About 3 months ago when PhotoImpact 6.0 was released, I went to the website and was thinking, there is no way they could have improved it enough for us to justify purchasing the upgrade. Was I wrong!
Key “upgraded” features
1. You can now generate complete websites with 6.0. This enables you to embed all the links into the graphics. Very, very nice!
2. You can now insert HTML text into your websites using 6.0. This kind of goes with the above. This allows you to add into your website and it not be downloaded as a graphic. So in turn you speed up you website.
3. The browser preview has been drastically sped up. They call it “Instant Browser Preview”.
4. GIF Animator 4.0 was also released with PhotoImpact 6.0. It has many new features. I guess that’s another epinion!
5. The Image Optimizer and Slicer have been enhanced with 6.0. There was a problem in 5.0 (they did release a patch for this) that would reset your default optimization back to 75 percent. This among other things has been improved with the optimizer.
6. You can now open and edit entire websites within PhotoImpact. This will allow you to embed graphics and edit directly from your web server.
7. You can also do digital watermarking now, which was not available in 5.0. This feature is not used by everyone, but can be handy in a business website environment.
8. There are also many Web Page templates that are included with 6.0 that makes your website creating a breeze. Some of these functions are very nice.
There are many more features that are new or improved with 6.0. I have tried to include the very important and great new features.
PhotoImpact 6.0 is work every penny for the upgrade. I didn’t think they could do it, but they have outdone themselves. Now I think I’ll just sit around and salivate until 7.0 is released. :-)
