AOL IS A RIP OFF! HERE IS WHY.......

Written: Jun 28 '00
Pros:Easy for internet beginners
Cons:Overpriced, Lacks features and Censors content.

Aol is mainly for beginners who are not familiar with the internet. I'll admit that it's a good ISP to start with since setting it up is a piece of cake. However once you are on the net for 6 months you should switch to another ISP that will offer you total freedom on the net.

I've known several people who use AOL and I've even tried it myself. It's only popular because of the incredible marketing the company does. They are great at promotion, but their service really jades first timers on what the internet is truly about.

AOL censors content. You make a web page on their server, it better be "G" rated or they will take it down on you. Last time I checked this was America! Their should be no censoring allowed. Second of all they are over priced. Why pay $21.95 a month for internet when most other providers offer unlimited monthly service for less? The AOL browser is designed to make it attractive looking for kids. Huge buttons and all kinds of bright colors. It's perfect for a 10 year old, but not very professional looking for serious web surfers. The browser is so full of junk that it diminishes the viewing area of web pages by about 25 percent. It's like surfing the net looking through a windshield. It's just terribly awful. AOL also lacks basic features that others provide. One of those very important features is sending pictures through the mail. If you don't have AOL and someone from AOL sends you pics, YOU CAN NOT VIEW THEM!!! What kind of deal is that? A friend of mine recently sent me six pics from her AOL account. Did I get the pics??? NO way, I only received a text message that said I could not view them. That is because AOL is trying to make people rely on their service to do basic tasks on the web. If I want to see those pictures then I NEED to sign up with AOL to view them!!!! That is the sly AOL marketing department at work. Let's make people depend on us so we can sign up more customers. AOL is turning into a Monopoly For Gods Sake!! No other Internet Service provider in the World uses these bogus tactics. How do you feel being an AOL customer knowing that your family and friends can't view your pictures you e-mail them unless they have AOL too! Well, that's another way that AOL offers you less and charges you more. Not very fair is it????

The only piece of software that AOL offers which is any good is their AOL Instant Messenger. Well guess what??? You don't need to have AOL to use their Instant Messenger software. Anyone using ANY internet provider can download it from the AOL site for free! I'm not signed up with AOL, however I do use their AOL Instant Messenger software. The reason I use it is because AOL has millions of customers worldwide and I like to be able to access all those people who do have AOL and their Instant Messenger service. However there is no way that I would ever use AOL again for myself. Two days of the free trial was enough to make me realize that there was nothing there worth keeping.

Their service is limited in many other ways you just won't realize until the day comes when you sign up with another Internet Provider.
Then you will see that what I say is true. So don't be limited anymore. Do yourself a favor, after you get comfortable surfing the web and feel comfortable at operating your computer system...... Dump AOL and then get a true sense of what the internet is like.
