| BucthFL's Full Review: BellSouth FastAccess ADSL |
I recently signed up for DSL service with BellSouth FastAccess since I did have Winfire DSL which has ceased operations & is no longer working. I signed up with BellSouth for their DSL service on March 1, 2001, & faxed them a letter of authorization on March 2, 2001, to have them release my DSL line from Winfire & switch it to their DSL service. On Wednesday, March 7, 2001, I was informed by BellSouth they had switched over my DSL phone line to their DSL service. Unlike before when I switched DSL service providers it took about a month for my DSL line to be released & switched over. I was also told then that they had shipped out my external Alcatel USB DSL modem that very same day. Well, on Monday, March 12, 2001, I received their DSL modem by UPS. I was very happy & satisfied with how quick it took them to switch my DSL phone line over to their DSL service & how promptly I received their DSL modem.
I unpacked & installed their Alcatel USB DSL modem with the drivers within 15 minutes. You then had to use a 56k dial up modem to dial into BellSouth.net to set up an account before you could start using their service. This took about 10 minutes & was easy to understand & get through. After that you could start using your DSL connection. I was impressed with how easy it was to install everything & be up & running on DSL in no time. I went to DSLreports.com & checked my DSL speed & I have been getting 1.2 download speeds & 200 kbps upload speeds. I haven't lost the DSL signal yet & it has been running smoothly & very reliably for me for the past week that I have had their DSL service.
I had to call technical support twice once for setting up my e-mail account & the other for a missing DSL filter for a phone. I got through to technical support both times within 5 minutes which to me is a very quick response time. With BellSouth FastAccess DSL you also get unlimited dial up with your 56k modem just in case their DSL service does go down. This is a very nice feature added in with their DSL service. They also all you to have 10 MB of web space along with 1 primary e-mail account & 4 other e-mail account which you access through any e-mail program such as Outlook Express. When using their DSL service you also get a dynamic IP address, so it is always changing for you each time you sign onto their DSL service. This is great for security for your computer unlike if you have a DSL service with a static IP address such as Telocity.
Their service here in Florida goes for $49.95 or if you are with their BellSouth Solution customers on your phone line you then get their DSL service for $40.00 a month. Over all after having their DSL service for a week now I am very happy with it!!
