About 3.5 years ago when my wife and I found out we were getting charged over $20 per month for Compuserve dial-up Internet service, we knew we had to find something else that would work.
We decided to try out the Kmart Internet service named Bluelight. We didn't know what to expect, being at that time Kmart was in some financial trouble and actually predicted to go bankrupt. However, this was probably one of the better decisions we have made.
The service included unlimited dial-up use for only $9.95 per month and no additional fees. We thought that this was a great value since there wasn't much out there that could compare in price to this service. Plus this service was over 50% less than what we had been billed for with Compuserve.
This was probably the best decision we had made on a small scale. The service was amazingly fast compared to AOL even, since many people had not been using the service. Also, we had noticed that there were two dial-in numbers for our area, which also gave us a bit more ease of use.
Through the few years we have used this service, we have noticed many great upgrades on the mail server, including an increased mailbox storage of 1GB currently, SPAM controls, and other editing options in the mail service.
As many people know, dial-up Internet service is nothing to really brag about since it's speed isn't great. However, Bluelight has run quite fast compared to most services because there aren't that many people who know about it. It isn't advertised like Netzero and other services that combat against AOL and other high priced services.
Again, if someone is looking for a great email service with decent dial-up speed for searching the Internet, this service is for them. But if someone is looking for a great service for something to download from the Internet, avoid this service.
I love that Bluelight Internet has been reliable and not as incredibly slow as the typical services we have used. Another thing I love is that I can get my email from any service or any connection that I have. I don't have to have a typical "start page" that is normal on services like AOL and so on.
I don't like that it is still slower than most higher speed services, but that's a trade-off we are willing to make.
