| Kallisti's Full Review: Cablevision Optimum Online (CT/NY) |
I just helped a friend install the Cablevision Optimum Online package. It's been up and running for three days. Well, that's not true. It's been up and running two out of three days because there was a cable service outage in the neighborhood that took 24 hours to fix.
It seems to be running great -- my friend just downloaded some files from Napster faster than I've ever seen Napster transfer before.
But the point I'd like to make is that your local cable company is probably not the most reliable company in the world -- or the speediest when it comes time to fix something.
Of course the current snow conditions in the Northeastern US are sure to be causing problems with cable TV and other wires, so you can't really complain that much, I guess.
Although I remember losing cable service for three days in the fair-weathered summer once when I was a subscriber to the company Cablevision bought ...
My advice to new cable-modem owners dependent on Cablevision's Optimum Online service is to keep your old modem installed as a backup.
