The Bottom Line: Get it only if another broadband provider is not servicing your area. My recommendation is a reluctant "Yes".

| skitch's Full Review: Charter Communications Charter Pipeline |
Charter Communications took over my town's cable TV services about 5 years ago. They bought out both carriers, making their services a monopoly, and one county over, they still have 2 cable carriers, and Charter costs half as much due to competition.
While the internet connections are usually fast, once every week or two, it bogs down to about 600 bytes/second, and that's on a good slow down. The cable internet system itself is flawed, everybody goes through one gateway bandwidth port, so I can't blame that totally on Charter.
I have been mostly happy with charter, but their tech support people leave much to be desired. I was trying to network my computers together, and having problems, so I dialed charter and was told by the tech support person that networking was just for big companies, and that i really didn't need it, but could have technician come over and look at my modem for $69.95 in 2 weeks.
Overall, it's better than dial-up, but get a DSL modem if your'e looking for broadband.
