I've been using Cogeco's cable internet net service for more than 2 years now and I'm very pleased with the service.
The setup fee is around $150 CDN but you can always find some kind of promotion for free installation. When you call the cable company, you will need to make an appointment to have it installed. A cable technician will usually arrive first to install the line to your home. Soon after a computer technician will come to setup the computer.
The monthly fee is $40 CDN + GST and this included 3 IP addresses (they used to charge $10 per extra IP). This means you can setup 3 computers with just one cable connection without having to run a server at home. Cogeco will not set up the home networking for free, but it's fairly easy to set it up by yourself.
The connection is fast and reliable. Very seldom I encounter down time or other technical problems. Once in awhile the cable company will do some minor maintenance and the service will be down but usually for just a hour or two.
The only negative thing I find is the tech support. If you're lucky, you might get someone who knows about computers... but often you will get someone who is reading solutions from a book or manual.
If you have more than one computer at home and still using dial-up connection, get cable! With $40 a month, you can have high-speed connections for 3 computers and it doesn't hold up the phone line. All you have to do is buy some network cables and a network hub.
