If it were not for the drawn out drama in the opinion I would have found this opinion more helpful but to be honest I found it boring me half way through with feelings instead of just the facts and I almost stopped reading it but decided since I was half way through I might as well finish.

Sounds like you had a hard time too (Reply to this comment)

What's amazing to me is the complete lack of competence on the part of comcast technical support. I had a very similar experience with Comcast, and their support people just don't help! Even the higher tier support people just don't know what they're talking about. You should post the Rainwater guy's phone number so we can all call him (just kidding).

AT&T customer support is just as bad as you describe and they are raiding their rates. I've also had problems with installation people who didn't have a clue, though I suppose that varies by the subcontractor for your area. Excellent review. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Thank you for the information. I've reread it a couple times, now I'm printing it. Grammer and spelling errors? Me? lol!
Thank you for your kindness.

About @home. (Reply to this comment)

First of all, great review! There were a couple of problems with spelling and grammatical errors but they were too few to displace the articles value. I've had cable access for about two years now and I thought perhaps I would share some of my knowledge regarding the company (@home network in its entirety.) The first thing you should know is that approximately 80% of all cable modem access available in the US is achieved through the @home network or with the use of its backbone of cable systems. Many different companies or subsidiaries use the @home networks cabling and hardware for providing their services. For example, Comcast@home, TCI@home and AT&T@home. The reason for this is because AT&T (And it's subsidiaries.) own millions of miles of coaxial cable that is already in place and available so it's easy for them to do this whereas anybody else wanting to offer cable access would have to install their own cabling for every area and home that was to be connected. Bottom line for most companies, too expensive. As for the customer support, I'm afraid I have to completely agree with you that this is the worst aspect of dealing with @home access. I can assure you that NONE of the various @home companies offers support that is better than the others. In fact, from what I have been told, there are actually about two or maybe three support centers who provide support to all @home customers regardless of which particular @home partner your accessing through. This support arrangement is provided by a central support company who also provide similar support to other big name companies that aren't even a part of @home. When I first began using @home I was using TCI@home which was the local cable company (TCI). About six months later, AT&T bought out TCI and so my carrier then became AT&T@home. Nothing whatsoever, including the support number, changed for the better or worse. I have several computers throughout my home that all use the same cable modem via a 5 port autosensing hub. Each of these computers have different internal hardware (The slowest is only 66mhz with 16mb of ram, the fastest is 400mhz with 128mb of ram.)but I haven't noticed any problems with URL retrieval or access speed on any of them so I don't think I would bother spending the additional money on another independant connection if I were you. Instead, look elsewhere to solve your dilemma such as possibly having unneeded clients, protocols or adapters installed in your network properties or in your browsers internet options properties. Also, the @home software significantly slows connection speeds down due to the fact that it steals some up and downstream bandwidth for non-essential application routines like many spyware programs do.

My star up with @home (Reply to this comment)

was rocky beyond belief. But, the technical support since then has been solid gold! I've found them knowledgeable, friendly and willing. They're the biggest reason I stay with the service. Jacinta

Shar,
The hassles of the cable are will worth the installation process. It can be a very simple installation, if the company has trained their installers! We are surfing much faster.
Thank you,

I've only worked with one wolf. Years ago we found a "puppy" starving, living next to a road. I brought him in. The first time we brought him to a vet I found I had a wolf. Ooops, one of those small mistakes. :) He lived until old age.

I'm glad you like my (profile) wildlife page. Look for some interesting changes soon!

Thank you,

Not your fault though. Here I've been anxiously looking forward to cable computer hookup in our area. I didn't realize so much was involved. I figured they would hook it up and I could reach epinions 100 times faster than now...just that easy. Next time you're in MN. you have to come here. How much do you charge an hour? <G> I'm going to grab my umbrella.
