Compuserve has always been second to AOL. No matter what they have done, AOL seems to always be a step ahead of them. Until recently I wasn't even aware of Compuserves existence still until one of my friends got suckered in by Compuserves almost ridiculous schemes for customers.
CompuServe works like this. If you pay for 3 years of Compuserve, they will give you a huge discount on the pricing of those 3 years. So if you have to pay $1400 dollars for 3 years, then Compu will make you only pay $1000. Now this does seem like a deal, but consider this, Do you really want Compuserve for 3 years? After a while you are going to realize that this service is not all what it's cracked up to be. But you will be trapped with it until those 3 years are over. Or risk throwing about a grand.
They service of Compuserve is very much like AOL, it's an imitation of the internet while advertisements run rampant on everything you click. You usually spend more time waiting for the ads to download than the actual information that you requested. The internet access through CompuServe is slower than the real thing, and so you are stuck with a sort of window to the internet, but you are not getting the full effect. Otherwise the service does allow you to enter a great library of online data, but its not what you would expect, especially if you are used to AOL.
So I would think very hard about whether or not you really want this service before signing away 3 years pay.
