I have read numerous opinions on CompuServe that are negative. Granted these people have had problems with this internet provider. However, I have had no trouble on my end of the keyboard.
CompuServe is owned by the same people who own AOL but it isn't AOL. That's a plus. I hate AOL because of constant harassment from other members who 9 times out of 10 want "cybersex" and because of tons of porno mail that gets sent to your email address. CompuServe is like AOL minus the bad stuff. It even costs the same price a month for unlimited access.
I never get kicked off during idle periods. This happened all the time with AOL when I used AOL. CompuServe never signs me off unexpectedly. I always sign my own self off.
When I sign on, there is always a connection speed displayed at the time of connection. My connection speed is always 52000 bps. My list of local connection numbers is huge. That in itself is amazing. I live near Asheville, NC. That isn't exactly a huge city.
I signed a three year contract with CompuServe. That doesn't bother me because I already paid for three years with AOL out of contract. I'd rather pay the same price for something I am much more happier with.
Yes, CompuServe paid on most of my computer. For that I thank CompuServe.
I think people just need to experiment around with internet providers to see which one they like the best.
I myself like CompuServe. It seems more business focused than AOL.
