My husband ordered DSL service through Earthlink about a year ago. He put the service direct billed to his credit card. After three months had passed, he received his credit card invoice and there were Earthlink charges of over $1,500! He immediately called customer service and they informed him they had changed the service he had initially signed up for to a "per minute connection charge" if you did not call and change the service to the monthly flat rate. My husband is prone to leaving his computer connected all night!
He was floored that they would do this without ANY notice to him. He went back and forth with telephone calls, and the thing about Earthlink, is if they say they are going to call you back, they do.
I listened for a couple of days as he threatened to cancel his service altogether and inform any friends and relatives of the situation. The last call that came to him was from a supervisor, wherein he explained his situation yet again. Earthlink finally conceded and credited his card the full amount, less the flat monthly rate that he would be charged from here on out!
His Earthlink service is always available when he logs on and he has not had any future problems or billing errors! If I wasn't so hung up on free internet through Netzero, I would definitely go with Earthlink.
