FreePPP (Point-to-Point Protocol)
FreePPP offers 100% Free Internet access service to New York City area. It's totally free, with no banners, surveys, or questionnaires. Their website is very simple with one dial-up number: (212) 796-1460. This is only a local call if you're in NYC. No download is necessary. Your login/password is ppp/ppp. They also have dial-up software that would configure your dial-up networking but you could simply connect by configuring your settings manually.
FreePPP, ironically, is a company based in San Francisco, CA; providing free internet access to NYC. You can get help via email. You get no email account with FreePPP but they give you links to get email from Hotmail, Usenet from DejaNews, and chat room from ichat.com. There's no other features, such as web space and other internet resources. FreePPP supports both Windows and Mac. Internet usage is unlimited and unrestricted.
On their website, it says, "We now offer ISDN for FREE!" I don't see any info available on that. I contacted them and they replied saying they do provide ISDN access. You could try contacting them also if you are interested.
FreePPP is only good for backing up your primary ISPs. This is because the connection is not very fast and is no where near 56k. Use this when the ISP you use is busy/offline/down. I recommend better ISP's, such as 1 Nation Online (www.1nol.com), and FreeDSL -- which provides free dial-up. (www.freedsl.com) They both have no ads displayed when you use their service.
Thx for reading and good luck!
BTW, FreePPP belongs in the section 'Free Regional,' instead of 'Free National' ISP's, because it's only for the NYC area.
