Pros: Good price if you are using a dial up service.
Cons: Didn't notify me when the next payment was due.
The Bottom Line: Now with the smart dialer and surfing 5 times faster, I can tell you this is money well spent. If you have one computer this will work great for you.

| Susie-34668's Full Review: People PC |
Both Len and I have been pleased with Peoplepc. Len has purchased several computers over a 20 year period. About 6 or 7 years ago, he bought one from Radio Shack and paid over $2,000 for it. However, Len likes big boys toys. As soon as something better comes out, he wants another one.
Around three and a half years ago, Peoplepc was offering a Toshiba computer, monitor, keyboard, etc. for just $24.95 a month. The only thing you had to purchase was a printer, and Len's one was working well. This including the internet dial up service. At that time shipping was around $50. Len's computer came and the service was excellent.
He then telephoned them and ordered one for me. This was just over 3 years ago. It was an I.B.M, again with everything except the printer. This time I do believe the shipping had gone up to $80. Exactly the same deal $24.95 a month, including the dial up internet service. Both of the contracts were for a 3 year period.
With the first computer I didn't have a problem with them billing my credit card. That way I didn't have to make payments. The second computer they had changed companies for the finance, so I ended up getting a book of payment slips from MBNA. I asked if it could go on my credit card, and they said I would have to have one from them. I asked what the figure was for the 3 years, and ended up paying it in full. This was my choice, because I only carry one credit card, and want all purchases on it, to make life easier.
Peoplepc are always adding new local numbers so we never have a problem getting on-line. There are a few advertisements on the log-in page, but no pop-ups. The service is rarely down. I can't even remember the last time. The customer service representatives are very helpful. They have helped with computer problems, as well as resolving such things as me forgetting my password.
I forgot to tell you that the first computer, both Len and I used, so when the new one came, I didn't want to have to change my e-mail address for Epinions, and everyone else. Len had put the second e-mail address under my name, so he is now called 'A boy named Sue'.
We were both so happy with this service that when the 3 years were up for each computer we decided to stay with them. We could have payed 2 years in advance for $9.95 a month, but decided to go with the $10.95 for a years payment, up front. When this runs out, we could both opt for new computers, and start all over again. On the other hand both are running really well. I purchased a new monitor for mine this year Samsung SyncMaster Monitor so may even keep them.
Two days ago Len decided to try peoplepc X 5 times faster service. He had already paid for the year which ends in September. For another $1.95 a month, he could add this. He went ahead without telling me. He asked me if I wanted to do the same with my service. I told him, I wasn't sure when the year was up on mine. Can you believe it. Yesterday. They hadn't notified me.
We had been wondering about trying Road Runner. We have 3 computers, with my laptop, so it might just work out the same price, or not much more. We had to make the decision right away otherwise I could have lost my e-mail address. I decided to go monthly with Peoplepc, with the $1.95 up-grade. I will see how much faster the up-loading is. I really do not want to be paying $45 a month for Road Runner, with Len still having around $116 of prepaid internet service with Peoplepc.
I am fairly sure we will be going to Road Runner later in the year, but for now this works for us. We do have an Emerson switchboard box, and call waiting from our local telephone company. This way we do not miss any incoming phone calls.
If you think you might like the deal with the computer, check out to see if they have free shipping and handling. This does come up from time to time. We missed out.
I am going to do some r/r/c right now, just to see how fast this performs.
I can tell you that with the 'Smart dialer' as it is called, I got on-line much faster. The homepage is still similar with a personal horoscope. Weather data for my area etc. Yes, the pages did load a little faster, but as it is Sunday, it was always really slow. I think I will be happy right now with the choice I have made. If I can read a few extra reviews a day, then it will all be worthwhile.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
Susie.
