This company is a major rip off! The commercials are a very bad joke, catered toward the financially less fortunate! I terminated my service with them in mid-summer of 2005, via TELEPHONE. That is VERY important to know if you are leaving them! They will NOT accept that you are leaving them by an email alone. Just read some of their fine print in the legal sections on their site! They attempted to bill my credit card numerous times, all throughout September and October. I reported this illegal activity to my financial institution, and they were blocked from doing so. In the month of November, I saw no attempts in the records and thought they had given up trying to rip me off. It is now December 8, 2005, and just today I saw in my credit card records, online, where they tried to ONCE AGAIN bill my card in the amount of $47.85!!! I could hardly believe what I was seeing there in print!!!! Just imagine this! Over six months AFTER I terminated my service with them!!! And I might add, that when I left them, I did NOT owe them one red cent!! I have tried to call them with no success. I sent them an email to every email address that I could find on their site today.(3 in total...all most likely useless...They would never reply to a need before, so would they now??) In the email I demanded ONCE AGAIN that they cease and desist from any further attempt to STEAL money from my bank account! I also told them that I was going to report them to the proper authorities for the crime that they are attempting against me, and also to the Better Business Bureau. I did follow through with that and filed a formal complaint with the BBB. I also intend to report them to every establishment that I can find that handles Internet Fraud.
The site of the Secret Service has an abundance of information about all sorts of these type crimes.
Now, aside from the fact that they are downright THIEVES who will steal your money over six months after you leave them...'When' I used their service, I was disgusted every single minute that I was ever online with them. IT IS HORRIBLE SERVICE...slowwwww, and will freeze up frequently; slow downloads, slow uploads; you get booted offline constantly...and ohhhh my goodness, that bothersome peoplepc blue window that remains up at ALL times!!! Like you really want to remain on THEIR PAGE the entire time that you are on the internet??? It's too much money, to have to put up with that useless window! Then... there were all of those MANY hours that the "ACCELERATED PC" did not work and I'd just get a little box saying that it could not connect. But boy, I sure was paying for all of that acceleration wasn't I?? And if you ever try to get any technical support? You might as well just forget it!! There IS no help for you! Never will customer service reply to an email! And what about those PHONE CHARGES OF $1.50 per call, for the priviledge of calling them? Or rather, while you are sitting ON HOLD?? And IF you are lucky enough to actually ever speak with someone, they seem to be trained (brainwashed?) into trying to make you believe that there is something wrong with your computer and NOT their service, OR to speak down to you as though you are a computer illiterate dummy! Don't you believe it for a minute! It's their service. A 2-bit service that is can't adequately keep it's subscribers online for 2 hours at a time even, and slower than an old Commodore 64! I was using a new system, which was one of the top of the line and fastest ones on the market. It makes no difference though, if your ISP is slow as a snail.
I began to wonder today, after their most recent attempt at thievery, if maybe...just MAYBE, there had ever been any previous complaints on this sorry-*ssed-rip-off-of-a-so-called company...So I did a search and guess what popped up first and foremost? ....On the Consumer Affairs site... "PeoplePC, will pay a $100,000.00 civil penalty to settle Federal Trade".....and on the Federal Trade Commission Site... "United States of America v. PeoplePC, Inc. (Northern Dist. of Calif.) ... "Complaint For Civil Penalities, Injunctive And Other Relief" ...So this proves they have been in some MAJOR hot water in the past. (So...??... they try to recoup their losses?... by stealing from their previous customers, of whom they still have possession of their bank card numbers??...hmmm...)Just do a search for yourself...such as on www.complaints.com. You will find more complaints all across the web on them than you could imagine! This is a definite bunch of crooks who care about nothing or no one except putting innocent people's money in their pockets! They make an attempt to appeal to people that can't afford the higher priced Internet services and this just makes me sick, that thieves can profit from the lesser fortunate! Thank goodness I was 'finally' able to get broadband! It's almost like some sick sort of humour that I've been whizzing along with my broadband for months now, and yet this shabby slowwww dial-up company is still trying to take money from me!! Well...they will not get away with it any longer.
Beware people! Tell everyone you know! Boycott these crooks at peoplepc!!
