| jennwildcat's Full Review: RCN Cable |
We just switched from a local cable company to RCN on May 28, 2003. The tech showed up early, thankfully someone was home early to get the door. But at least they showed up!
The install took about two hours because we got phone, cable, and broadband Internet. It was painless and easy. The tech was nice and efficient. He installed two Motorola cable boxes on our two televisions. Next he installed the cable modem with no problems. We haven't had any internet problems yet nor have we had any cable problems. The cable is clear, the channel options are great, and I love it!
The price ($124 a month) was great too for the whole package and they are running a promotion where the cable part is free for two months, so we pay even less to start. The package includes one telephone line with Voice Mail, Caller ID, and Call Waiting, the basic and the digital cable channel tier, HBO and Cinemax channels (15 in all), digital music channels, broadband two-way cable modem service (MegaModem with the Gold or Platinum package is up to 3 Mbps in speed!) An extra cable box for a 2nd TV is $4.95 a monht.
Installation was free. The only extra was a $50 deposit for the equipment. We didn't have to pay the bill yet either, I'm surprised. I thought for sure we would have to pay ahead of time.
Initial tests of our internet connection are in excess of 2 Mbps, so we're quite happy with the super speed we are getting!
The lady who took my order was very nice, answered all my questions, and got back to me on time. The tech was nice too. No problems with their service!
UPDATE: One week later. Family and friends are complaining that they keep getting a "All Circuits Are Busy" message when trying to call us. I just tried to call home from work and got the same thing... have tried for over 1/2 hr. and still the same thing. I just called Customer Support and at first they didn't want to talk to me (name not on our account!!!) I was told my name would be on the account with my husband when we signed up and *I* made the calls to sign us up, and now they said I'm on on there!?!?! She said they see no problems on their end but will look into it. GEE THANKS, so if my mother is dying and needs me, oh too bad? I'm not getting a good feeling from them already. I wound up hanging up on the lady after arguing with her for some time about my name not being on the account. I will update as more info comes in - hopefully they can resolve this problem!
It's a week later now and the problem seems to have curtailed, but I'm still not happy with their customer service. I'll see how it goes for a while, but I have a feeling it's not going to be smooth sailing with this company.
