Beep Beep-Look at the hole in the middle of my paneling..

Written: Nov 21 '00 (Updated Feb 17 '01)
Pros:Great speed, great connection
Cons:Make sure you keep an eye on the installer
The Bottom Line: Downloads quickly but surfing speed remains slow. Service is reliable but speed is not.

I've waited for one year for Road Runner. I wish I had kept a better eye on the installation, however.

I left the gentleman alone to install the cable line figuring I wouldn't hover about and be a nuisance. He said he was going to find "the best way" to get in. When I heard the drilling, it was too late to stop him. I now have an ugly black cable at level with my window sill coming in through the paneled wall. I know this could have been installed through the floor base, yet I guess he was in a rush to get on to the next customer.

What does talking about a hole almost smack dab in the middle of my wall have to do with the reliability, speed and ease of use of my new Road Runner? Not a thing, unless I can save one other person from having this happen to them.

RoadRunner runs through your browser, as explained by the installer. You are online 24/7 as long as your computer is running.

If you have more than one computer, you need to purchase a Hub. A hub is a portal that allows you to hookup two, four, eight or more computers within your household.

The installation office neglected to tell me to buy Ethernet cables. If you are having more than one computer on Road Runner in your home, make sure you have the ethernet cables required. They can be purchased at most electronic stores such as Circuit City or at Office Max or Staples.

I'm finally able to get through Epinions with great speed now that I have a cable connection. The difference is quite amazing.
The installer also spent some time showing me how to create additional emails. Other than the slipshod way the cable was installed, the service was quick and professional.

Besides, I can always push a plant stand in front of the intrusive cable. Right? RIGHT?

Beep Beep my nerves.....

February 2001 Update:

After having Road Runner for almost three months now, I have been surfing the web in most cases as if was connected at a 14.4 modem, particularly Epinions. RoadRunner claims it is the "sites" that I am using, and not their fault. Therefore, all twenty or thirty sites that I cruise at a daily or weekly basis all have something wrong with their connection, according to Road Runner.

I did receive an email back from Epinions today on how slow and glitchy the site has been since they have come back on January 17th. They told me that the bugs that they are experiencing primarily happen with CABLE connection. Go figure.

Beep beep my epinions.......
