| cdobrin's Full Review: Telocity DSL |
Telocity is a fairly new company. I have been using their service since it was available in my area about a year ago. The setup time was actually shorter than promised; about 2 weeks. This surprised me, as everyone that I knew had to wait at least a month or so. My setup of the modem and all of the software could not have taken more than 5 minutes; everything worked the first time, no problems.
The speed is obviously dependent on your distance from the phone company. I am less than a mile from mine, so I get download speeds that are faster than my T1 at work, which is pretty amazing.
The reason that I say 'satisfied, not thrilled,' is because of the initial customer service. Maybe it is because Telocity is new, I don't really know, but when I first had a problem (e-mail not working), I called to see if I could find anything out. There was not a soul on customer service who even had a clue what was going on. No idea at all.
In the last few months, things have really improved. I have just installed a small home network with 3 PC's sharing the connection; this is fine with Telocity. You can even host a site with them, and that's fine by them as well. You get a static IP address, which is amazing for $49 a month, and as of now, the customer service is really good, and they answer within 2 minutes every time.
