rick_k's Full Review: Apple Mac OS 10 Full Version (M7686LL/A)
It was a choice between this and Windows xp. This won hands down. Version 10.1 runs great, so well that I bought a Mac just for the Operating System. If that doesn't say something, nothing will. the only thing I can fault, is lack of 3rd party software that's OS X native, but that's changing daily. The real strong points are price, stability, and power. First it cost less than Windows to upgrade. $20 (Mac®) compared to $99( Windows® xp home) for the upgrade, and $129 compared to $199 for the full install. If you have multiple processors the price gets even better ($199/$299 for Windows® xp Pro). I was so glad that I did my homework before just blindly buying xp, I went Mac® and never want to go back. When you buy OS X you are really buying 2 (Two) Operating Systems, makes the price look that much better. All of the things I've plugged into this Mac just work. I installed an extra hard drive (40 GB IBM Deskstar 7200 rpm) and a Zip® 250, and installed 1GB of RAM. The PC vendors should take a look that the case design, it's about 10 years ahead of anything pc. I didn't have to install any drivers, both OS X and OS 9 saw the devices, and they just work. I plugged my Canon PowerShot A20 into the keyboard (figuring it wouldn't work without extra software) and it showed up in OS X. Micorsoft should really look at this, maybe then they'd see how to do an Operating System. I have used both OS X and OS 9 for a while now and have no complaints. After years of using Windows® I finally saw what I had been missing. Let me tell you this is worth checking out, especially when Microsoft rolls out the .NET plan, where you pay them monthly to use your computer. Good job Apple you have converted yet another user from the "Darkside"
