I have been a Frontpage user since the days of Frontpage 97, and now with 2002 I am still using it proudly. As some reviews from some sites state 'For people with a small brain' or 'For stupid people' well that couldnt be farther from the truth.
Like many people now days Time = Money. How you spend your time is crucial. If you waste 5 minutes trying to hack out HTML by hand you could miss a meeting, or have to not meet with a client to make a deadline.
In today's web devlopment arena there are lots of tools, the Dreamweavers, Homesites, GoLive and many many more ranging from Freeware to Commercial Applications. But the ultimate questions in devloping websites with a tool such as frontpage is:
1) How much time do I have to learn something?
2) What kind of deadline am I on?
3) What is my budget?
Most programs like Dreamweaver and GoLive can have a bit of a learning curve to them, and sitting down to "Learn HTML in 20 days" can be a teadious thing. Reading through chapter and chapter of HTML data which with always emerging web browsers and HTML standards the tutorials may be slighty out of date, still very workable in most pages but new directives or certains may of been 'removed' and replaced with something new.
Frontpage is quick, and easy. For those who have the luxury of using a webserver enabled with Microsoft's Frontpage Extentions you could easily work on your company or personal website right from the server. You just put in your username and password and start creating HTML, forms and more all at the click of a button.
For someone looking to start devloping professionally definately Frontpage may be in your toolbox, but due to limitations in including PHP, CGI, etc via Frontpage certain other programs such as GoLive may be a better choice for editing. But for some basic layout and setup of a site skelton could easily start in Frontpage and move out to other editors.
So definately, I would say get Frontpage it is a great tool, and has some nice features which could help you get your site created in record time, and has the basic design features to get you up and running quickly, and effeciently.
