Pros: It works! Live Update keeps everything up-to-date
Cons: Some viruses require manual removal
The Bottom Line: All in all it works wonders. I have been using different Norton anti virus programs for years and have NEVER been infected with a virus. This is a MUST buy.

| jerman73's Full Review: Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2001 7.0 Full Version fo... |
This is hands down the BEST ant-virus program money can buy! In today’s world, anti-virus protection is a necessity. It’s not uncommon for me to get several viruses as email attachments a week and Norton has caught them every single time.
It runs in the background and allows me to use my computer without having to worry about a system crash. Viruses are a pain and often are the causes of sudden and load outbursts of profanity. They can be mild but still menacing such as the Love Bug and KaK.worm viruses that replicate its self and spread to everyone in victim’s address book. However, there are brutally destructive viruses, which destroy everything on a user’s hard drive. If this hits a business, it could mean thousands of dollars in losses.
So after completing the step-by-step installation, you can choose features such as email scanning, scanning at specified intervals, and of course, LIVE UPDATE. That’s my fav.
Live update enables Norton Anti-Virus to obtain, through the Internet, FREE updates to protect you from new viruses as well as glitches in the program that have been fixed. I consider Symantec (manufacturer) the best at controlling new viruses. I swear they might even create their own viruses just so that they can come up with a fix immediately. They are THAT quick. Other products can’t compare.
The latest release, 2002, supports Windows XP, as well as the older editions. You get the live update free for one year along with technical support. The bad news. Tech support is only available through message boards and email support. There is phone support, although you want to pay for it.
Norton has NEVER caused my system to crash and has detected EVERY virus on my system. When it finds the virus you have the option of deleting it, quarantining, or fixing it. If Norton is unable to fix the virus, it will suggest that you delete it. However, I usually quarantine, because sending a virus through email is a criminal offense. Therefore, I turn the web URL or email over to the ISP who can effectively deal with it.
I also would like to tell you to try before you buy. www.symantec.com offers FREE Downloads. Then you can see the magic for yourself.
As an important part, you can email a virus to Norton that the program can’t fix. That way, they can come up with one quicker. One hand washes the other. Download it; you’ll fall in love.
