Cats are an interesting pet. As a long time dog lover, I have come back to cats after a long hiatus. It’s often been said that a fair characterization of a cat is, if you were in a jail a cat would bail you out but a dog would be right in there with you, high fiving at the good time you both had. I certainly don’t agree with the notion that cats are smarter as I’ve seen some pretty daffy cats though when you find a sharp one, they are intensely interesting.
Agility is yet another quality that cats possess; in fact so much to the extent that it can get them into trouble. I’ve accidentally closed a door at home only to find the cat had found its way into the air break between the screen and door. How many times have you opened a door momentarily to find a cat slipped out? They are fast, agile and quiet. It’s that stealth-like quiet that concerns me. It’s reassuring to know that they are both home and safe so I choose to have them tagged and collared, not just because it’s responsible to do so but each has their own distinct little clink of their tags make on their collar that quickly identifies them
Because cats like to play with the dogs and each other and occasionally fight, we opted for the Coastal Petsafe Breakaway Collar for safety concerns. The nylon webbed 3/8” collar has a plastic clip catch that, under pressure, will give way, releasing the cat from its collar. Adjustable from 8.5” to 12” the Coastal Petsafe Breakaway Collar could easily adapt to a variety of cats. Our, are strictly indoor cats and as such subject to the perils within our walls, like a wrought iron railing, hooks, cabinet knobs and a variety of other hardware that can potentially pose a choke risk for an nimble feline. With the Coastal Petsafe Breakaway Collar, we don’t allay our concerns that they would meet with an accident from those or other hazards like the dogs or even each other. The variety of colors might be helpful for rescue operations in helping visually identify penned cats.
Outdoor cats present yet another concern in that we can’t be certain of the threat the encounter outdoors. While a breakaway collar would certainly protect them, once released from it, they are subject to the complexities of getting picked up as a stray or being adopted by a well-meaning rescuer; in either scenario perhaps hindering recovery and a reason I would recommend the Coastal Petsafe Breakaway Collar for indoor cats, but it’s your call.
The Coastal Petsafe Breakaway Collar is easy to get the cats to adapt to, though older cats, who have never been collared, might protest at first. In any case, the Coastal Petsafe Breakaway Collar is a worthy solution for those indoor pets, who might get out but more importantly, have to navigate the perils of everyday life indoors.
