Pros: Out of stock, hard to find
Kona has been my favorite blend for some time until I tasted a version by Coffee People. I’m not a fan of Coffee People to begin with, but Kona coffee has been difficult to find lately so I gave it a try.
Coffee People describe this blend as: Experience the locals’ favorite with this caramely, bold slice of paradise.
I thought this tasted like a regular cup of coffee, nothing special. It does not remind me of the Kona blends that I’ve had in the past and it certainly doesn’t remind me of Hawaii. Most Kona blends have a nutty hint, but I did not detect with this brand. I found it to be a strong and acidic which is no way to start my day. I didn’t taste anything “caramely” and it certainly wasn’t sweet. Like most K-cups, this one is also Extra Bold meaning there are extra grounds in the cup. This doesn’t improve the flavor at all.
The Kona Extra Bold K-cups are designed only for the Keurig Brewer. It’s difficult to find this blend since there’s been a coffee bean shortage and some brands like Green Mountain have been totally discontinued. Since I couldn’t find it locally, I had to go globally and found it online but not on the Keurig site. The foil on the K-cup is pink but the box they come in is brown with giraffes printed on it. The smaller 24 count box is brown with the word coffee people in different colors, I think.
There are several different brands of Kona blend sold for the Keurig Brewer. This is my least favorite, and it’s pretty high on my will never buy again list.
This may be liked for someone just looking for a cup of coffee, but I think that someone looking for an authentic Kona blend will be disappointed.
