May Require Some Work To Finish This One

Pros:Graphics Plot
Cons:Too Linear Moments of repetitiveness and boredom Lack of map creativity
The Bottom Line: If you enjoy FPS that don't require to much thinking, and let you indulge your tactical style just a wee-bit, then this is the right game for you.
When comparing to it's predecessor (the original Deus Ex, I'd like to pretend that Invisible War never happen) it's hard to say where to rate this game: on the one hand there are impressive graphics and entertaining story lines, but on the other the game itself is rather lost when attempting to recreate the non-linear story that made the original Deus Ex so convincing. Human Revolutions is obviously a string-you-along first person shooter. You may be tempted into believing that you can replay this one over and over, but in truth, there weren't that many interesting solutions to all the playable stages, and it seemed almost too easy to just run in and shoot everything in site. I think that the producers of this game focused mainly on Human Revolution being an FPS, where the only do-it-yourself qualities were deciding which augmentations to level first - and for the record, you can pretty much upgrade the majority of them by the end of the game. There wasn't enough feeling of sacafice when upgrding your charecter. I missed the actual choice of losing an entire augmentation slot depending on how you chose to hard-wire your character, and I missed the focus on deciding how you wanted to approach a map tactically. As beautiful as the graphics were, the stages became painfully redundant, with the clinics in every location being identical to one another like someone just gave up halfway through and decided to use the same map instead of creating a new one. The same thing happen with the baddies in all the maps too, not creative enough and too many of them like you're just begging us to go in there and shoot them all. The repetitiveness was also made all the more obvious due to the NPC's. One of the best parts of the original Dues Ex was the fact that the random people on the streets you could interact with had their own personalities and catch phrases. Their voices may have been used over and over, but it was obvious that the whole reason the game felt so real was because no one ever repeated the same lines as another character. I think in the end, Human Revolutions just got a little too boring and I found myself really having to muster through the last 3/4ths of it. Honestly, I put it away for over a month before I took it back out and finished it. I would be generous to give it a 4, but I don't think that it's as terrible as a 3, somewhere in the middle, I suppose. Also, I wish their had been a bigger weapons selection. I remember how many objects you could pick up and use in the first Deus Ex...not as crazy as a game like Skyrim or Oblivion, but definetly something worth noting for a game of it's time. It added to the whole realism thing. It's like, if you're going to go with the FPS move, then commit to a weapons arsenol, and forget the little nicknack objects you can pick up.
