Pros:Thicker than normal microfiber towel, Not heavy when wet, Wicks water

Cons:Encourages too much play in rain puddles

The Bottom Line:

If you have a water-loving dog, or you need a great towel for bath time, consider this plush microfiber Bone Dry towel.

There’s an expression the old-timers repeat inTexas– flood follows drought. The drought seems to be coming to an end in this part of the state with multiple heavy rains filling creeks, reservoirs and the park behind our house. Our dog’s favorite play area has become a pond and waiting for it to dry up is no longer an option. Our energetic blond lab must romp.

We need to be able to dry her off when the romp is done.  Microfiber towels have been saving our carpet and furniture for years. Recognizing that in this extraordinarly wet air the towels haven’t been drying out between her multiple playtimes we picked up a new, larger, and more absorbent microfiber towel. The Bone Dry Dog Drying Towel is an ultra-absorbent microfiber towel. While it’s not significantly different in size than her Ace Microfiber Towel it’s heavier, thicker, and truly holds more water. Our dog was most happy to oblige and lab test the towel’s quality.

The Ace Towel has been more than sufficient for the occasional rains. It works for the dog park clean-up, and was perfect for drying her off after playing in the pool at the dog park. However, if she’s playing outside in water, rain and wet soil multiple times a day we need more than one. We have a large, heavy traditional dog towel but it’s bulky and doesn’t wick away water while drying her – it tends to spread the moisture around.

The Bone Dry Dog Drying Towel measures 44 x 28 inches (1232 square inches); the Ace is 30 x 48 inches (1440 square inches). The Bone Dry towel is thick when compared to the Ace, it absorbs more but it doesn’t get heavy like a traditional towel. This towel quickly wicks away water and mud.  One side has the microfiber appearance; the other side resembles plush terrycloth. These are both perfect sizes for our 65-pound dog; you could completely wrap up small dogs in these large-sized towels.

The drought in Houston seems to be over. We’ve enjoyed heavy rains every day for the past ten days. At work we’ve measured over 12 inches. At home we’ve easily had over 6 and two must have fallen this morning.  We pulled on our tall rubber boots to wade through four to six inches of water in the park and turned our blond dog loose to chase her Orka Jack. She exploded with energy and splashed through large “ponds” of water with the joy that only retrievers seem to share.  It was filled with signature moments including the clean up – she couldn’t have been any wetter if she had been swimming.  It took less than 10 minutes of drying time on an enthusiastic squirmy dog until she was dry enough to be allowed inside.

These towels can be tumbled dry, or air dried; they can be machine washed, but not with fabric softener. There are now two microfiber towels hanging by our back door along with her Mud Magnet Paw Cleaners.  Each of these has a specific use. The Paw Cleaners work great for quick drying of her tummy and paws after a walk on a damp morning with heavy dew. I carry a small FURminator towel in one car and a microfiber Pocket Pet Towel  in the other car.

We’re set for all types of rain and mud.  At the moment, after being stuck in the house for too long because of rain and thunder, our dog is demanding a second romp through the park’s new shallow pond. She loved it! I’m considering obliging her after the next round of rain passes. It was as much fun for us as it was for her. If I were to have just one large dog towel it would be this super absorbent microfiber dog drying towel. If you have a water-loving dog, or you need a great towel for bath time, consider this plush microfiber Bone Dry towel - no hair dryer required.
