Dr. Scholl's Ultra Thin Corn Removers

Pros:They stick well and you can't feel them when they are on your feet
Cons:Hard to remove from paper, did not completely remove the corn
The Bottom Line: Very disappointed in these because they didn't remove my corn completely

Several years ago I developed a spot on the sole of my right foot, which I thought was a plantar wart.  I purchased Dr. Scholl's Plantar Wart Remover, which helped initially, but the bump kept growing back.  When I showed the spot to my dermatologist he wasn't sure it was a plantar wart and said to keep treating it with Dr. Scholl's.

I got tired of spending money on the Dr. Scholl's product when it wasn't making the bump go away, so I stopped buying it.  A couple months ago I went to a different dermatologist to have a suspicious spot cut off of my nose, and I showed her the spot on the bottom of my foot.  She scraped at it with a scalpel and said it was a corn.  She also advised me to buy an over the counter treatment, but said they often recur.

I decided to buy a package of Dr. Scholl's corn removers.  They had two different types at Fred Meyer, a regular version and an ultra thin version.  I bought the Dr. Scholl's Ultra Thin Corn Removers and have had mixed results with these as well.

The package of 9 medicated discs retailed for $3.49.  Fred Meyer sells their store brand for half that price, but I figured I'd go with the name brand to start with.  The package states it contains 9 covers and 9 medicated disks, but these are not separate pieces, both are on the same oval shaped sticker.

Product Claims

* Maximum strength
* Fits comfortably even in tight shoes
* Removes corns fast with as few as 2 treatments
* Patented formulation

Ingredients

The active ingredient is 40% salicylic acid (corn remover).  Inactive ingredients are antioxidant (CAS 991-84-4), iron oxides, mineral oil, petroleum hydrocarbon resin, silicon dioxide, synthetic polyisoprene rubber and talc.

My Experience

These are nothing like the Dr. Scholl's Planter Wart Remover pads.  Those had two parts, a small medicated disc that sticks to the area and a thick pad that covers the disc.  While the Dr. Scholl's Ultra Thin Corn Removers look similar, they are one solid pad.  Each one measures about 1" long and 1/2" wide, with a nude colored center and a darker colored border.

I had a hard time removing the pad from the piece of paper they were packaged on.  These pads are extremely thin, about the thickness of a child's sticker.  Once removed, it was sort of difficult to tell when I had the nude colored center portion on my corn.  I had to go by feel (this is where the thicker 2 part version probably excels).

Once applied it stuck very well and I could not feel it, even when walking around in my stocking feet.  The directions say to remove the disc after 48 hours and repeat every 48 hours as needed for up to 14 days or until corn is removed.  Remember that there are only nine  that it claims to remove corns fast with as few as 2 treatments.

I didn't have any more success with these than I did with the Dr. Scholl's Plantar Wart Removers.  This prompted me to compare the ingredients, and both of them have the same exact ingredients!  They both contain 40% salicylic acid.  I should have compared the ingredients in the store since they are sold side by side, but I just assumed the corn remover had different ingredients than the plantar wart remover.

After using all of the discs the top layer of the corn turns white and it is easy to slough off, but the corn never goes away completely.  I wish I had saved my money and tried the Kroger brand instead of the Dr. Scholl's, since they were basically the same product (the Kroger brand only had one active ingredient so I figured there was something in the Dr. Scholl's patented formula that made a difference).

Unfortunately, these did not work for me and therefore I cannot give them my personal recommendation.
