Don't worry about buying AAA batteries anymore
Written: Dec 26, 2011

Pros:don’t have to buy batteries, always have batteries with power nearby.
Cons:short battery life, long charge time.
The Bottom Line: Buy these if you don’t want to buy AAA batteries anymore.
I purchased this product because working AAA batteries in my house is like a rare, endangered species – you’re lucky if you see one. Unfortunately, not many things on this Earth run on one AAA battery. Worse yet, even less things run on one dead AAA battery, which is another issue I have. I was just sick and tired of trying to find a pair of working AAA batteries and God forbid I need more than a pair. It would never happen and I would have to go out and buy more batteries. So, I figured a pack of rechargeable batteries would solve my problems. So far I was right about that.
I already owned four AA rechargeable batteries when I considered buying these and I was happy that I had AA batteries. They come in handy and I feel the same way about owning the AAA batteries. I bought two packs of the AAA, just in case I find myself needing a bunch; two packs gave me eight batteries to work with. I usually never know what I own that takes AAA batteries until its too late, as in the item has died and needs new batteries, so it was just a “better safe than sorry” move for me to get two packs. It resolves that problem for the simple fact that now I shouldn’t have to worry about buying AAA batteries for a very long time and I have enough batteries for several things that might take AAA batteries.
If you’re going to buy these batteries (which I highly recommend you should), you need to buy the Duracell battery charger, too. The charger actually cost less than my two packs of AAA batteries and it also came with four AA batteries. So, it won’t set you back more than $10 to $12 depending on where you buy it. The two packs of AAA batteries actually cost me $14. So, I consider the charger a bargain, especially since a pack of rechargeable AA batteries cost roughly five to six dollars. The charger plugs into the wall and can hold up to four batteries of both kinds, which is enough for me since I use these in a remote and they used to be used in a wireless mouse and keyboard. So, I was using five at a time, which I charged at different times, so I always had space in the charger.
The batteries thankfully came charged already. They were ready to use right out of the pack, as batteries should be. I’m not sure if they all come like that, so if you do buy these batteries, just be certain that the package says that the batteries are “pre-charged.” Trust me, you don’t want to have to charge these things the moment that you get them home. It would probably sour you to the whole experience because of how long the batteries take to charge.
These batteries don’t last as long as regular batteries (the AA have the same issue), but that actually doesn’t even matter. Why? Because you can recharge them! My AAA seem to last longer than my AA, but it’s probably because I use the things that run on AAA batteries less. Based on my AA batteries, I would estimate these batteries last one to two months with frequent use. Once they run out of power, all you have to do is put them into the charger instead of going out to buy new ones or scouring your house for other, working batteries. This is the best reason to buy them; it saves you a lot of trouble, time, and money, especially money. It is so easy, efficient, and just to your advantage to have batteries on hand that essentially always have power. And, did I mention it saved you money? Because it saves you money.
When you charge them, you have to put in an even amount batteries in the charger (two or four) for it to begin charging, which is reasonable since most things run on an even number of batteries anyway. When you put them in the charger, a red light will come on to let you know that they’re charging and a green light will come on to let you know when they’re finished. The most bothersome thing about the batteries is how long they take to charge. They can take anywhere from five to eight hours to regain their power; about eight hours has been my experience with the AAA batteries. My suggestion is that while they’re charging you have a spare pair of batteries if you need power immediately. I prefer to charge mine while I’m asleep or at work and then I don’t have to suffer through the wait. The wait won’t be a problem if you have already charged batteries on hand (which you will if you buy two packs and end up with eight of these like I did), therefore you don’t have to wait while the others are charging. I more blame the charger for the long wait than the batteries and Duracell should come up with a more efficient charger to cut down the time.
Other than the charge time, I don’t have a bad thing to say about these batteries. They’re super-convenient. It eliminates the hassle of buying new batteries every few months. I like these batteries and I would buy more if I needed more, but I don’t because they’re rechargeable! See the logic there? I don’t need more batteries because I have these batteries. You won’t need batteries anymore if you buy these. It’s really that simple.
