You can be cool too with Edge Shave Gel Sensitive Skin!
Written: Apr 05 '13 (Updated Apr 05 '13)
Pros:Great fragrance, lathers up well thus lasting a long time, soothing on the face.
Cons:Has a tendency to clog up sometimes. Didn't experience a first time close shave.
The Bottom Line: This is great for sensitive skin, the cool gel soothes, smells great and lathers up to insane proportions! Your razor may not cut through all that lather first try though.
I'm lucky I have sandy colored hair, as it seems darker facial hair grows faster. That means less time shaving for me, I can get away with it for a couple of days before a pair of hedgehogs begin to slowly crawl their way up my cheeks!
Because of this I can be somewhat of a lazy shaver, trying to get another days worth out of it before I shear off those bristly hedgehogs once again.
My skin can be fairly sensitive to other lathers, especially highly perfumed ones and will redden and itch after shaving. I've tried a few but haven't cozied to any of them. Soothes sensitive skin I saw this Edge line of shaving gels in Walmart one day, and as I had never used the gel before, I thought I would give Edge Shave Gel Sensitive Skin, 7 oz a try. Heck, I couldn't do any worse and it had an appealing, colorful sporty looking label! Yeah, I can be a sucker for packaging sometimes... First impressions When I used it the next day I was quite surprised. As I had never used a shave gel before it was a new sensation for me. The first thing was the smell. It had a nice masculine fresh scent, a lot like Active Fresh speed stick but a stronger scent to it. When it came out it was a blue tone, and quite cold to feel. Once lathered onto my face it slowly changed to a pale blue, almost white texture, and it was smooth...oh, so smooth! Whoops, don't spill it! It squirts out kind of fast, almost like jumping on a tube of toothpaste without the splatter! You need to have your hand right under the gel stream to catch it coming out as sometimes it sprays off-kilter and onto the floor. This is usually due to the gel drying around the nozzle and partially obstructing the flow. Just run the nozzle under the tap and wipe it off and it will be good to go again.
This gel contains Aloe to help sooth sensitive skin. Added to that the instant cooling effect once applied and my skin is never irritated by this product. After its applied and the cool sensation starts to wear off, it matches your body heat for comfortable shaving. The can says to wash your face first. Sometimes I do, sometimes not. It never made a difference with me. Plenty of lather You need very little gel for this to lather up a lot. I just use a dob the size of a quarter, rub my hands together and apply to face and it's usually too much, so much so that I could paint my whole face and neck with the stuff!
It applies quite thick and firm, and contrary to what the label says I don't think it gives a close shave. I always use Gillette Twin Blades, but the gel lather is too thick for the blades to cut fine first go, it takes a few passes for me to achieve that smooth feeling, and that's with a near-new blade. New blades take 2 strokes for that smooth feeling. I don't mind that though, it does get the job done and the can lasts for a long time because I don't need as much to make it lather up.
Has a tendency for nozzle-clog My only issue with it is that sometimes it can dry inside the nozzle. I mean after you spray it out, some inevitably creeps back inside and dries there where water can't seem to clear it. Then nothing comes out at all and afterwards I'm shaking the can around like Norman Bates' infamous shower scene trying valiantly to clear the blockage! Usually to no avail. Then I go out and buy another one...*sigh* Where to buy This is available at pretty much most, if not all major retailers...and Amazon.com of course, 6x packs for around $25, Walmart sell twin packs for $4.24. They also have it in 2.75 oz cans.
Ingredients for this pleasant gel are: Water, Palmitic Acid, Triethanolamine, Stearic Acid, Sunflower Seed Oil, Glyceride, Isopentane, Sorbitol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Fragrance, PVP, Isobutane, PEG-90M, Blue 1. I like it Cool and refreshing and fresh fragrance, Edge Shave Gel Sensitive Skin is what I will be using for some time to come. The lather is silky smooth and not irritating to my skin.
