This is my first year at Biola University, and I love it so far. It is different from the other schools I have visited, for some bad reasons, but mainly for great reasons.
First of all, I love the atmosphere at this school. Everyone is extremely nice here. On the first day of class, I was sitting alone in the cafeteria, and a couple of seniors came up and started talking to me. People here help me grow in my relationship with God, and they help hold me accountable.
The teachers are all outrageously nice. They are all very approachable, and help each individual student understand concepts. With and eighteen to one student teacher ratio, each student gets equal attention. They also make the subjects fun. I even enjoy going to Calculus, as crazy as that might seem. My computer science teacher had a swim party at his house last Sunday, and all his students were invited.
The campus is beautiful, and there are extracurricular activities for everyone. Many sports, activities, and ministry programs are available, and they're all free. The food at the cafeteria is great, and the meal program is a good deal. I also enjoy the chapels they have on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and the singspiration praise service on Sunday nights.
The dorms are all very clean, and now all have internet access. The computer labs have state of the art equipment, and is available to everyone.
Now a few cons. Some dorms have three people in a room, but lots of people see that as a good thing. The library is kind of small, but they are building a new one which is bigger and will open next year. Tuition is expensive, but they give out good scholarships. Not too many majors, but not too few. They have good science, math, English, bible, and Christian ed. programs.
Overall, this is a great school. As I said, everyone is extremely friendly, always smiling and laughing. Another thing I love is the no drinking, sex, and drugs policy. It helps keep good clean fun in the dorms which is what should be expected for a Christian school. I also like the fact that the school isn't too big, only 4000 students. They do have married couple apartments too.
There is a lot of unity here, I feel great around my suite-mates, and around the floor group we have. I am excited about what the next four years will be for me!
This is a good school for Christians that want a good, Christ-centered education.
Oh yeah, girl to boy ratio is 2 to one. :)
