Murray State is considered a 'music conservatory' by many people in the field. My wife graduated from MSU in '70, my oldest son in '98 and my youngest will graduate in '03. All are Music majors.
The University excels in both instrumental and vocal instruction. I feel MSU has the best low brass students in the state. The faculty is known world-wide. Murray's performing ensembles, such as the Concert Choir and Wind Ensemble, have performed in Carnegie Hall and in Europe.
Murray is small enough to give each student an equal opportunity to study with the professors instead of a graduate student as many larger colleges do. You become a family member and have a wonderful sense of comfort knowing the teachers will treat your student like one of their own children. MSU graduates have gone on to become very successful directors, teachers, composers and performers.
If you and your child are looking for a school with a superb teaching staff, state-of-the art facilities, a community that welcomes the student as one of its own, safety and value for your dollar, you cannot go wrong selecting Murray State University Department of Music as your home.
Murray State is located in western Kentucky near Kentucky and Barkley Lakes.
